Creased and Scruffy..!

Tonight, I wrote a letter on paper with a fountain pen, one that bears mistakes I carefully scribbled through and annotated beside. The ever-changing font, a result of my terrible handwriting, made it almost as challenging to decipher as Egyptian hieroglyphics. However, this isn’t my concern; the burden lies with the person reading it, so tough luck.

The process proved difficult, considering it had been at least a decade since I last composed a letter. I was uncertain how to begin, but once I did, it flowed as smoothly as spreading warm margarine on toast. Word after word, sentence after sentence, I discovered a wealth of thoughts traversing my mind.

Deep down, I knew that in the years to come, I would stumble upon this letter and berate myself, thinking, “What a foolish person I was!” Yet, that’s precisely the sentiment I wish to evoke, as it signifies personal growth and lessons learned.

As often happens, the ink ran dry before I could exhaust my thoughts, a signal to halt the writing process. Not that I no longer desired to write, but the shortage of ink, bourbon, and the advancing night hindered my progress.

Carefully, I folded the letter to ensure it fit snugly into the envelope, without any creased or shabby edges. This task proved more challenging than clicking the “send” button on an email, but it was worth the extra effort.

Then came the joy of inscribing the correct address and retrieving an old stamp from my childhood collection. I licked it like a four-year-old savoring a lollipop, delighting in the readiness to send.

And so, here we go… Social media, technology, take a backseat! It’s time for the good old-fashioned handwritten letter to shine.!
