The “Bleak” Voice

Said hello with a bleak voice over the noise of her vibrating phone. As the vibrating went on she stood still. He knew there were things she wanted to tell him things that were to hurt him badly. Also for some reason he knew deep down inside that the person on the other line of that vigorously vibrating phone was the reason to all this awful silence right now.

So she said, “Get out of my life, that’s where I need you right now!” He looked less surprised and only replied to her “Why don’t you answer the phone first”.

She thought that was a bad idea but answered anyway. The number was who she knew as the man of her dreams with whom she met only a few hours ago and somehow it all didn’t made sense anymore even before hearing his voice from her phone as why was she there, standing before the man he shared so much in the last year and a half and saying things like “don’t want you anymore” over a man she knew only about 6-7 hours.

Then she heard a voice on the phone, a voice that definitely isn’t the guy he was expecting. The voice was calm but through…”Do you know the owner of this phone ma’am, you are the last call made from here.” She was confused, didn’t understood but still replied with a simple “yes!”

The man on the other side of the phone of which a different man should have been said “Could we please kindly ask you to come to the station if you’re living in the area. She was slowly getting the hang of the situation while getting scared of what happened but on the other hand with a possible relief.

While all these happening, he was just watching with mixed emotions of anger, sadness and most importantly curiosity.

She just rushed out of the house without even bothering to make him an explanation of why she was there or why she was leaving all of a sudden. So he followed her to her car next to which she asked him to come with her and that she was going to explain it all on the way.

So the two was in the car, with a lot to say to more to keep quiet for the other to talk. So the suspense went on till they reach the station. He still didn’t know anything, and to a certain extend it would be unfair to say she knew a lot.

So they parked the car in front of the station and walked in. On the reception she had to say her name but he was once more surprised that he realized he never knew her surname and it wasn’t from around here.

With so many question in mind, they went to a detective’s office, so the detective explained everything. Her father was in jail. Of course she didn’t actually knew a lot about him since the last call on his father’s phone as the detective explained earlier was the very first time they spoke after her father’s leaving her and her mother at a very early age. So they did just made arrangements to meet at which he promised to explain everything.

She briefly explained her connection with him and how she didn’t see or heard from him for the last 27 years and she was looking for answers as much as they did.

He was just sitting in the corner listening and trying to digest all that’s happening around him.

She tried to check with the detective if she could see him but for some reason it didn’t seemed right. So she left her phone number, kindly asked not to leave the city for the next couple a days and left the station.

As unfair as it was, she didn’t allowed him to ask any question to her at the car on the way back. And he was just trying not to think about the series of awkward events all happening at once this evening.

So they walked up at the flat and she suddenly started to pack. When he came back to the room with two cups of coffee in his hands saw her packing and couldn’t stop himself from asking “Aren’t you supposed to not leave the town.” With a slightly ashamed but sure voice she replied; “Who said I am leaving town, just leaving this place.”

He somehow felt this was too much for no reason since he didn’t know what’s going on and decided not to push any longer and let her go. It was hard to figure out his role in all this. But he was struggling to figure out why should he needed to be in all this as well. So he left his mug and took his jacket without saying anything to her. Somehow as needless as it might have seen he felt like this is some sort of payback and left the flat. Strolled around the streets for a few hours and came back to house with the hope of finding a note maybe with an apology and a little explanation to his mind at ease. But there were nothing, all her clothes were gone, the coffee he made for her was half and the TV was on.

For a very brief moment he wanted to make sense out of all these but then it seemed like a very silly idea so letting it go was the logical thing to do and that’s what he did!
