Freedom isn’t necessarily free!

Once upon a time there were these stairs, steep as it can be with a heavenly view. So many tries to climb them just to see the view from the top as thinking it must be even more beautiful than the road up.

Of course on the way so many fell down and considered as occupational hazard by the old gate keeper. He has working at the gates of the stairs as long as he could remember. It’s said that he has been working at the gates for the last 182 years and had let about 1.328.600 people to the stairs and most of them came back before the top. Some was lost on the way and the ones who made it to the top never came back.

One day I was at the gates of the stairs, old man turned to me and said ” do you have what it takes to make it to the top” I though he meant If I could make it but he wasn’t. He actually meant can you take it what you might face If you manage to reach, of course I was to find this out only on the way up.

So I started to climb up, people was passing by me on their way down and I was passing them on my way up. Some stopped as they were out of breath, some stopped for a sip of water If they have any left, even saw ones smoking on the side of the stairs.

At some point I saw this pair of nice shoes just under these very slender ankles. So I started to climb faster to catch a glimpse of her but it wasn’t so easy, she was quick. And getting quicker as I start to climb faster, like she was aware of me and running away.

After a short chase, I decided to keep it cool and possible come across with her higher the stairs when she gets tired with the speed. So I carried on with my usual speed thinking everything going on in life.. Work, family, relations and even the guy who opens his shop just before I go to work every morning. Then I started to realize why so many people wants to climb these stairs everyday. It might only even worth not coming down.

Every time I felt I was closer to the top, more stairs there were but less people of course. So I started to hesitate the fact that do I wanna make it to the top. I might have not came back or everything I would have to go through on the way up. So slowed down just before I see her stopped on the side, out of breath and looking at me with eyes shouting “why?”

So I stopped next to her and asked; “Why?” first. She replied; “It’s the destination I am here for.” Then we started chatting about how has it been for her so far. As the conversation went by she told me about her theory why no one who gets to the top never came back. The story goes as that there is no top, the ones who are determined enough just keeps going so it isn’t that they don’t come back, they just never got there yet. Which actually made me realize that I was climbing the stairs for the last 3 days and haven’t needed any food or drink.

Then suddenly she said If this is true the only way to get out of this “loop” is to end it then without a blink she jumped and she was lost in the clouds. So I thought what I should do and what she did seemed like the most convenient thing to do since I was tired of this (not only climbing but everything I went through my mind during the journey and realizing stuff about myself that I am to regret most of it.).

So I did the same thing and jumped; but what I didn’t realize was that as there is no end to climbing same goes with the falling.

Then I woke up just to see my half filled dirty coffee mug is just next to me not even cold yet. So I took a sip and carried on writing a story on the blog about a guy who goes on a journey of which he isn’t sure If he can ever make it back…
