A man entered the elevator for a job interview, noticing two gentlemen in dark blue Brooks Brother’s suits with black leather bags. They greeted him, and as he reached for the buttons, he saw his floor was already selected. Uneasy, he overheard their conversation about interviewing candidates, realizing they might be his interviewers, making him feel uncomfortable. Despite considering disclosing his situation, he remained silent.
During the ascent, the two men discussed interview questions and answers, leaving him in despair. Upon reaching their floor, they all exited, and in the waiting room, he sat on a black leather couch, receiving coffee from the receptionist. Sipping his coffee, he pondered the impending awkwardness of the interview.
Summoned for the interview, he stood with sweating hands, heading for the door. As he reached for the knob, one of the men from the elevator passed through him. In the large, plainly decorated room with expansive windows, he glimpsed the city view, then focused on the executives.
Spotting the man from the elevator, he anxiously examined his eyes, finding no recognition. Relieved, he answered questions mirroring the elevator conversation. After a brief evaluation, he learned he had the highest performance and got the job. Initially ashamed, he overcame it with the joy of victory.
Upon meeting the executives, the man from the elevator reached for his ear teased him about remembering the questions, saying “if you didn’t remembered them right, they were going to employ the CEO’s idiot of a nephew.” causing a momentary disappointment. However, the thought of his new salary lifted his spirits, and he left the room with a cheeky smile, a happy man.
